The time is the 23rd century, the year is 2278, stardate 4781.62. The scene is the main cargo hold of the newly commissioned Starship Enterprise 1701 E during the commissioning ceremonies. The speaker is the veteran Captain Jean Luc Picard of the new and old Enterprise. It's a beautiful ship, but it will never be or feel right as the old ship did. Geordi has told me that this ship has increased power, the best in its class and able to go a million times faster than a comet. I guess it's an engineering officer's dreamland, great for the flagship of the Federation. Me, I just love that command chair, unlike Riker, whose been offered his own ship many times. I guess he prefers to stay on the Enterprise, great loyalty to the crew. Maybe I just feel too loyal to a ship, but I never felt this way toward the U.S.S. Stargazer. What am I doing here? This should have never happened! Never, should I have left behind the Enterprise D to fight Dr. Soran, boy, was he a pain! I could have sent Worf or another, why didn't I? Why did I volunteer myself to go, oh, that's right! It was because of Geordi, he was a hostage, and I was the mutual hostage trade between the Klingons B'Etor and Lursa. If I was on that ship, I may have been able to save it. if only I could use that Nexus Ribbon again! Back in time I would go, Captain James T. Kirk might not have died, or the previous Enterprise might have not been lost. Anyway I'm here, might as well get it over with. This is something I would have never guessed I would have to do again. "Fellow crew of the... Enterprise 1701..... E, we (my friends Riker, Data, Geordi, Worf, Beverly, Diana, and of course Guinan) this grim and somewhat joyful event. The commissioning of the new Enterprise... 1701 E. After retiring from or last ship (non-voluntarily) each of us has had time to think, and there is only one thing that I remember most of all. Our togetherness, we have always been a close team, and we always will be. Together in this new Enterprise, we will continue to carry on the ideals of the Federation, discover and rediscover stars, planets, solar systems, and possibly new civilizations. Here at Utopia Planita yards, where all of us have started from before, we will begin our new mission. We have been given well wishes from Starfleet in San Fransisco, and with that, our new orders, to continue deeper into uncharted space. Hopefully, this will test out, and time will make this Enterprise home. You have all been given your separate orders, at this time you may leave and please together we will continue "to go boldly where no one has gone before'!" Well, I guess that's it, I hope that is enough encouragement, as I don't feel that much changed. This ship will never feel right, but at least the crew's the same. Riker will always keep the crew in order, while Worf protects them. Geordi will still be refitting and checking out this ship, taking it to its' limits. Data, oh, Data he now has emotions event until recently only his deactivated android brother Lore possessed. Data the android has reached this moment, as the wooden puppet has become a real boy finally! Deana Troi her empathic abilities will continue to aid the crew, as will Guinan's six-sense of the time line will continue to serve the crew both in advice and in serving us in Ten-Forward. Lastly Beverly Crusher, my love, she may never know how much I do adore her. My strong willed Captain's prerogative will never allow me to tell her, but I still think we will end up together, though. Yes, my crew is a legendary one, and together we will continue to go toward the future as or new missions will steer us toward greatness. Yes, this Enterprise may not be the same as it was but it is the Enterprise now and it is what we will have to call it, Home.
